The Spirit of Revival

1 Thessalonians 5.12-24

Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God for you. Do not quench the Spirit!”

(1 Thess. 5.16-19, NRSV)

Introduction

How much do you want revival to visit our fellowship?

The spirit of revival moves in believers and in a body of believers in direct proportion to THEIR desire and preparation.

In 1 Thessalonians 5, Paul is praying for the power, and the renewal of the Body of Christ in Thessalonica.

Paul encouraged the Thessalonians to live in the practices that renew believers and churches.

Live in unbroken fellowship (v. 12-15)

Rejoice at all times (v. 16)

Pray without ceasing (v. 17)

Live with gratitude (v. 18)

But Paul also issued two warnings to the Thessalonians.

Do not quench the Spirit (v.19) -how do we quench the Spirit?

By Ignoring God’s voice

By disobeying God’s voice

God cannot renew, refine, refill, and revive those who are not listening to the voice of the Holy Spirit.

Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts, as when they provoked me. (Heb. 3.15)

Then the LORD said, “My Spirit shall not strive with man forever… (Gen 6.3)

And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you are sealed fro the day of redemption. (Eph. 4.30)
