The Joyful Journey

Isaiah 35.1-10

And the ransomed of the LORD shall return, and come to Zion with singing; everlasting joy shall be upon their heads;

They shall obtain joy and gladness,

And sorrow and sighing shall flee away.

Isaiah 35:10 (NRSV)

Introduction

Isaiah is looking forward to the redemption of Israel.

In God’s redemption, all people will see the glory and the majesty of the Lord.

God’s redemption brings salvation.

Creation will participate in God’s salvation.

The weak, the infirmed, the fearful will all know the glory of God’s salvation

God’s salvation brings protection and direction.

A highway shall be there, and it shall be called the Holy Way; the unclean shall not travel on it, but it shall be for God’s people; no traveler, not even fools shall go astray. (Isa. 35.8 NRSV)

God’s salvation brings joy to all who receive it.

The joy is for the journey now.

The joy will last into eternity with God.

Joy brings strength and courage, for God is with us. .
