The Concentration of Consecration

November 26, 2023

In our passage today, and for the rest of the book of Nehemiah, the Jews celebrate the completion of the walls!

But the work is not done.

There are two themes I want us to understand.
Nehemiah’s rebuilding project is about God’s calling, provision, and protection.

Nehemiah’s project succeeds because of the CONSECRATION of the leader and the people.

Consecration is a key concept for the people of God.

Consecration means “set apart.”

Consecration is a life of faithful surrender.

Consecration is a life of faithful obedience.

Consecration is a life participating in God’s work in the world.

For renewal to become a reality in your life, and in the life of Christ’s Church, we must be consecrated.

John F. Kennedy states our mission like this: Ask of us here the same high standards of strength and sacrifice which we ask of you. With a good conscience our only sure reward…let us go forth…asking His blessings and His help, but knowing that here on earth, God’s work must truly be our own. (First Inaugural Address, Jan. 20, 2961)
