The Amazing Prodigal Love of God

Luke 15.11-32

But while he was a long way off, his father saw him and felt compassion, and ran to him and embraced him and kissed him.

Introduction

Have you ever been Lost? REALLY LOST?

Who are the characters in this story?

  • There is the wayward son.
    • NOT Prodigal Son
  • There is the older brother.
  • The third character is the father.

 

The FATHER is the true Prodigal in this parable.

Prodigal means extravagant, wasteful, spending resources on an extravagant scale, or giving something extravagantly.

  • The Prodigal Father extends extravagant grace to the wayward son.
  • The Prodigal Father tries to share extravagant grace with the older brother.

The parable of the Prodigal Father teaches us of the reckless, extravagant nature of the grace of our Heavenly Father!

Each of us, Like the Wayward Son stands in need of God’s Prodigal Grace.

  • Today are you like the Wayward Son and in need of God’s saving, restoring grace?

  • Or are you like the older son who needs to be transformed by that prodigal love and grace?
