Come to the Table

I want you to think about a time you shared your table with
someone else.

The table is one of the images that scripture uses to refer to
communion. (1 Corinthians 11.20, and 10.21)

The Lord’s table is a place to remember Jesus (23-25).

  • Remember Jesus sufferings. (23-24)
  • Remember Jesus’ death on the cross. (25)
  • Remember WHY he did it. (Matthew 26.28)

The Table is a place to celebrate God’s forgiveness and grace
(25).

  • To thank God for the forgiveness of our sins. (25)
  • Marvel in God’s gracious invitation to come to the table. (John
    6.35-37)

The Table is a place to experience God’s amazing grace.

The Table is a place to share in Christian fellowship.

  • We share in fellowship with Christ. (Ps. 34.8, 1 Pet. 2.2-3)
  • We share in fellowship with each other. (1 Cor. 10.17)

The Table is a place where we anticipate Christ’s return (26).

  • Jesus proclaimed the coming of God’s kingdom. (Lk. 22.18)
  • We proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes (26).

Today we begin a new practice in a new way.
