Advent: Living in JOY

December 17, 2023

Isaiah 61.10
“I will greatly rejoice in the LORD, my whole being shall
exult in my God; for he has clothed me with the
garments of salvation, he has covered me with the robe
of righteousness, as a bridegroom decks himself with a
garland, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels."
(ESV)

INTRODUCTION

WE HAVE BEEN TALKING A LOT ABOUT ISAIAH 61 LATELY.
 Isaiah 61 is Jesus’ own understanding of His mission.

 Isaiah 61 was written to Jews in exile, just before Nehemiah
began rebuilding the walls.

 Isaiah’s message of God’s deliverance creates JOY in the life
of one living in exile.

JOY IS NOT DEPENDENT UPON THE CIRCUMSTANCES WE FIND
OURSELVES IN.

JOY IS THE PRODUCT OF GOD’S WORK IN US HERE NOW, AND IN THE
FUTURE.

My soul magnifies the Lord and my soul
rejoices in my Savior! (Mary the Mother of

Jesus)

JOY IS AN ACT OF RADICAL TRUST IN THE PROMISES THAT GOD HAS
MADE TO THOSE WHOM GOD HAS CALLED AND REDEEMED.

Rejoice always… (1 Thess. 5.16)

JOY CALLS US TO PARTICIPATE IN GOD’S RADICAL ACT OF RENEWAL
AND DELIVERANCE!

Spread the Joy!

CONCLUSION
How do you need to experience the joy of God’s deliverance
today?
Where is God calling you to spread God’s joy?
